The Olga Iglesias Project celebrates the outstanding performance of scholarship recipient Lucila Zavala at the Laffont Metropolitan Opera Competition and announces a full scholarship to the Shepherd School of Music.
NEW YORK CITY, NY – The Olga Iglesias Project is thrilled to announce the extraordinary accomplishments of Fellow Lucila Zavala, soprano, who captivated audiences with her incredible performance during the national semi-finals of the esteemed Laffont Metropolitan Opera competition on April 17th, 2023 held at the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center in New York City.
While Lucila may not have advanced to the finals, her journey throughout the competition stands as an enduring testament to her dedication, skill, and fervor for classical voice singing. Her performances throughout the competition have left an indelible impact, marking her as a rising star in the world of classical music.

Full Ride Scholarship to Shepherd School of Music
Further amplifying the celebrations, we are elated to announce that Lucila Zavala has been granted a full-ride scholarship to attend the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. Beginning in the Fall of 2023, Lucila will have the remarkable opportunity to further hone her talents under the guidance of the acclaimed soprano Ana María Martínez.
Fundraiser Recital for Lucila Zavala
In addition to supporting Lucila’s accomplishments, we are excited to invite the community to a special fundraiser recital on June 16th, 2023. The event will be held at the rooftop of the gallery El Cuadrado Gris in Santurce, Puerto Rico and will feature performances by Lucila along with special guest artists. The fundraiser aims to support Lucila in covering the ancillary expenses associated with attending the Shepherd School of Music.
