Alejandro Márquez
Bio:
Alejandro Márquez was born in the town of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. Son of John Marquez music librarian of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and Hilda Ramos one of the most recognized opera singers in the country, obviously Alejandro from a very young age could not escape the arts, all this exposure made him from an early age knew that he wanted to be an artist. While he was in elementary school he always participated in plays and he considers his first acting mentor to be Pedro Adorno Irizarry, a renowned theatrical performer in Puerto Rico who gave him his first acting classes and his first opportunities in plays. After graduating from high school Alejandro was accepted into the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras campus, it was there where he began his serious acting training in the drama department and studied acting with great actresses such as Cristina Soler and Jacqueline Duprey and participated in plays mostly in leading roles such as Macbeth by William Shakespeare where he played the title character, Locos de Amor by Sam Shepard and Los Unos Versus los Otros by José Martínez Queirolo.
Upon graduating from college Alejandro had been privately studying vocal technique with his mother Hilda Ramos throughout college and began to get opportunities in the musical theater field his first official opportunity was in the musical JesusChrist Superstar by Andrew Lloyd Webber where he played the role of Caiaphas, then he made his debut with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra in the official Walt Disney concert along with other soloists. His greatest opportunity was when he finally got the lead role of his dreams in the musical The Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber in 2015 for the first time in Puerto Rico which gives him the title as the first Puerto Rican actor to play the role of the Phantom in the original Puerto Rican production. After this great victory, Alejandro had opportunities in several Opera and musical theater concerts including La Magia Y El Encanto De Broadway with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra where he was the lead soloist and had the opportunity to sing several musical theater songs alongside soprano Maria Leticia. Alejandro then went on to earn his master’s degree in voice at Brooklyn College and his career continues to soar with new opportunities in all that he passionately loves which is acting and singing.
